The Lou Ann Bullard Memorial Garden

Lou Ann Bullard's love of the natural world was matched only by her love of children. She was filled with knowledge of plants, birds, and the flora and fauna of her Indiana home. Once her nine children were raised she became a special education teacher in Buchanan Michigan. Her spirit lives on in the heart of her daughter, Elizabeth Bullard, the Founder of the PlayGarden.

The PlayGarden's mission is to provide children of all abilities a safe, accessible and adventurous place to play.

In honor of Lou Ann Bullard the Seattle Children's PlayGarden will install five Dandelion sculptures,

fabricated by local artist Steve Hirt. Standing between 7-12 feet tall, the sculptures will sway gently in the wind and cast shadows on the ground. Made out of stainless steel the Dandelions will beckon visitors from a distance to the PlayGarden and serve as a powerful image of childhood.
